Wisdom

Wisdom

James 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Imagine you’re on the roof with a friend who is learning to walk in faith.

He says “I’ve seen God take care of me through so many hard times that my faith has become super strong. Watch Him take care of me when I step off this roof.”

That’s strong faith with not so strong wisdom at work. Being a wise friend, you quickly calculate that at ten feet, his velocity of impact will be just over 25 feet per second. Knowing the law of momentum, you calculate that his body will smack the ground with nearly 2 tons of force. Something might break.

Being a true friend, you calmly, without making fun of him or calling him an idiot, ask him:
“Is it wise of you to expect God, who created the laws of physics, to suspend those laws just so you can make a point? I’m not saying He won’t, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen Him do this under these circumstances.”

Sometimes, I’m the unwise guy. Sometimes I’m the wise friend. All the time, I need wise friends around me, to keep me from smacking the ground hard.

Father, thank you for freely giving us wisdom. Thank you for friends to deliver Your wisdom. As we grow in faith, grow our wisdom.
