Start Doing

James 1:25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Randyism version: You’re not going to know the thrill of the ride until you get on board the roller coaster.

Sunday, I took a meal to a shut in. While there, I made sure his heat was working as we visited. I could tell that he knew his Savior so I asked him how he came to know Jesus. Man, did he love telling the story of a friend who kept inviting him to church! That afternoon, I was richly blessed!

That meeting wouldn’t have taken place if someone at church hadn’t launched the “Meal Train.” It wouldn’t have happened if my wife hadn’t voluntold me to do it while she worked on her classroom at church. She wouldn’t have been in that classroom if someone hadn’t had the vision of teaching littles about Jesus. (I affectionately refer to them as Cherub Monsters because they’re potty training while learning to manage emotions . . . loving God’s Littles is not a job for the faint of heart!).

I wouldn’t have a contact with most of you if I hadn’t committed to this daily devotional. I wouldn’t have made that commitment had someone not put the time and effort into hand lettering our name tents at a men’s meeting (I imagined how special it would feel to pray for each person as I carefully wrote out their name like that.) We wouldn’t have Brotherhood if someone hadn’t answered the calling to meet up, man to man.

“Doing” is the common denominator. The vision doesn’t happen till the doers do it.

Father, You have built an amazing roller coaster! We know it won’t go off the tracks. Give us the faith to climb on board.
