Favoritism

Favoritism

James 2:2 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. 2 For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, 3 and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,” 4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? 5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? 7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?

One of these days I’ll do a study on God-enomics. YHWH, the Creator of all things, has a vastly different view of wealth, even the value of a life, than we can comprehend. But today, we’re sticking with VxV of James.

Who is the tallest person you know? How tall? 6’6”? Over 7 feet? My best friend earned a basketball scholarship at ACU. I was stunned when I went to a game and saw that, at a “towering” 6’6,” he was the shortest man on the team.

Now, imagine looking down on a crowd of tall, short and average height people. The higher you go, the less difference you can tell. From the nose bleed section of the arena, there might be a difference. From a hot air balloon, 500 feet aloft, the differences fade. From a thousand feet high, there would be no noticeable difference. From God’s throne, how much difference would there be?

Father, You are Lord and Creator, of the smallest quark to the vastness of the universe. Help us to see Your Creation from the vantage point that YOU want us to see it from!
