1:1 James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
Just in case there’s ever a question about ownership, you can find the receipt for our purchase in John 3:16.
Well, at least being a servant of the Most High comes with privileges. Let’s see what Jesus has to say about it:
Luke 17:10
“10 So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’”
Hmmmm, no privilege there.
Matthew 20:25
But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. 26 It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, 27 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
I appears that this is the opposite of being privileged.
There you have it, my brothers, another guide stone to consider when seeking our path or when we’re trying to understand God’s will for us. We begin, not as a person of privilege but as a servant.
Father, our commitment to You is that those around us will know we are Your servants by our deeds, by our humility and by our love.
